Only a handful of things are forever: Death, diamonds, and email. Email? Yes, email.
I'm the first to admit that I begged, whined, wheedled, and generally made a nuisance of myself looking for a Google Wave invitation until some kind soul on a CRM group to which I post, gave me one of the coveted beta keys. With the sort of breathless anticipation only matched by prom night, I set up my account, whipped through a tutorial, and then...
...nothing. No one I knew had Wave. It was like owning the first telephone in the state of New Jersey.
Eventually I found a coworker who had Wave and we collaborated on a couple of awkward, tedious, project meetings. While I'm sure it will get easier as we get more used to it, I was deeply underwhelmed. The future of email or email's replacement? I don't think so. I suspect in 20 years, when I'm tottering off to the retirement home, some poor sap in operations will be struggling to deal with overwhelming flow of email spam and noise, just like I do, every single day.
